Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, the Goose Project under construction in northern Canada, and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland.
Position
Underground Mine Captain, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, Underground Mining, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate underground mining activities, including supervision, drilling, loading, blasting, mucking, ground support, backfilling operations, and construction, focusing on continuing to raise the personal accountability of all team members;
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies;
- Develop operational plans to ensure short-term and mid-range targets are safely met. Work with Technical Services to create weekly and monthly mining plans that are achievable and support the 3-month forecast;
- Support, mentor, and coach underground supervisors; Lead daily and weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks;
- Identify and mitigate potential hazards to safety and production, employ mitigation strategies to reduce impacts;
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Technical Services to meet production and development plans;
- Conduct regular inspections of work areas, equipment, and ground conditions;
- Manage crew staffing levels, schedules, and vacation; Monitor and report on production metrics; and
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate shift reports and operational logs.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Six (6) years of underground mining experience with a minimum of two (2) years as a Shift Boss or Supervisor;
- Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering, or Diploma in Mining Technology is considered an asset – relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu;
- Demonstrated understanding of underground mining methods, equipment, and ground control practices;
- Proficient in mining related software such as Deswik (CAD, Sched, IS), Ventsim, Pumpsim, Unwedge, etc;
- knowledge of surface mining and Alimak Raise survey is an asset; and
- Experience using Sandvik ISure Drill planning tools and Jumbo bolting is considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the annual salary for the role is $200,000.00.
