The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) provides safe, responsible access to recreational cannabis for adults 19 and older. We operate the provincial online store for recreational cannabis in Ontario and are the exclusive provincial wholesaler to authorized private retail stores.

About the Role

The Category Manager develops and executes category strategies for recreational cannabis products, including dried flower, oils, extracts, vape cartridges, accessories and other cannabis-derived products. This role determines optimal product mix, manages vendor relationships, and collaborates with internal teams (such as Consumer Insights) to ensure assortment optimization, inventory productivity, and alignment with OCS strategic objectives.

About Your Day

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships with Licensed Producers (LPs)
  • Define product assortment for assigned categories aligned with corporate strategy
  • Lead and evaluate product call submissions using data and standardized criteria
  • Leverage market trends and industry insight to identify product assortment opportunities and fill gaps in product offering
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on forecasting, inventory management, logistics, and Quality Assurance
  • Ensure strategic supply plans meet current and future product demand
  • Analyze and improve supplier performance and capabilities through strong collaborative partnerships
  • Schedule and contribute to periodic business reviews that monitor and track supplier performance

About You

  • Post-secondary education in business, marketing, or related field, and/or equivalent experience
  • 3 years' experience in category management. Experience with retail merchandising, eCommerce, and/or wholesale models & inventory management is preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience in data analytics and product strategy
  • Intermediate - advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and/or Tableau is preferred
  • Strong analytical, business and financial acumen
  • Proven relationship management and decision-making skills
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of the cannabis industry is preferred
  • Travel Required: Ability to travel throughout the province, for LP site visits as required by business needs (minimum of 2 times per quarter). Locations can be outside of GTA in rural areas, as such reliable transportation is required 

 

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $105,000. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
