Role Description

Reporting to the VP Finance and Administration, the
Health and Safety Advisor
ensures through effective leadership, training and continuous quality improvement that the requirements of the WCB, OHS Regulation, all applicable standards, and the Modus Safety Program are known and followed in all work areas.

The Health & Safety Advisor supports employees, leaders, and contractors by promoting a strong safety culture, identifying and mitigating risk, and driving engagement through proactive safety initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate the implementation and application of Health & Safety (H&S) programs company-wide.
  • Monitor and evaluate occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with provincial legislation and internal standards.
  • Lead and coordinate incident investigations, ensuring timely corrective actions and follow-up.
  • Manage WCB claims, modified work, and return-to-work programs.
  • Oversee the ongoing management and expansion of Modus health and safety programs.
  • Develop innovative safety initiatives that drive engagement across a diverse workforce.
  • Promote and communicate health and safety programs with enthusiasm to raise awareness and ensure compliance.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety risks, aligning resources to drive sustainable safety outcomes.
  • Interpret and report safety statistics, establishing benchmarks using industry research.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and evaluate employees, supporting internal development and succession.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation
    required
    .
  • Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation considered an asset.
  • Proven experience with WCB case management, incident investigations, and safety inspections.
  • Experience participating on a Joint Health & Safety Committee (current certification or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation and standards.
  • Experience with online H&S management systems; SiteDocs preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
  • Experience facilitating safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software applications.
