Construction Inspector

Public Works - Operations Support 

Status: 3 Long Term Contract Full Time Positions, duration 13 months

Salary Range: $79,977 to $99,927 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Hiring Range: $79,977 to $89,974 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Work Mode and Location: Onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON and various construction sites located within Peel Region

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (availability for afterhours work on nights & weekends as required)

The Role:

Reporting to the Foreperson/Supervisor Construction Inspections you will provide inspection services for the construction of capital and/or development type projects (Water, Wastewater and Storm Sewers, Roads, Bridges, Culverts, Noise Walls, Retaining Walls, Tunnels, and other Region of Peel Infrastructure) as per Engineering Technical Service guidelines (ETS).

In this role you will:

  • Receive engineering plans and special instructions for complex construction projects. Reviews same to ensure compliance with Region of Peel standards and specifications and practicality of design. Provides constructive feedback to the Project Manager.
  • Verify survey lines and grades against construction drawings, identify discrepancies, and report conflicts.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with Region of Peel standards, issuing orders of compliance when necessary.
  • Confirm that all construction materials meet approved standards and verify delivery tickets, protection measures, and time-sensitive materials like concrete.
  • Ensure road construction materials meet standards; take measurements and maintain required records.
  • Assist with preparing monthly and final progress payment certificates.
  • Manage and document material deliveries, maintain site material records, and issue material tickets.
  • Prepare project completion packages, including as-constructed drawings and required documentation.
  • Provide inspection services for tunnel/mining projects, utility cuts, and site plan construction (residential, commercial, ICI), ensuring work meets Region standards.
  • Coordinate water disruption activities with operations and administrative teams.
  • Maintain daily journals and reports, including photos, using internal or third‑party applications.
  • Ensure proper construction signage following MTO Traffic Control Manual.
  • Investigate complaints, ensure public safety, and maintain good relationships with contractors and the public.
  • Enforce safety compliance with Ministry of Labour and Region of Peel requirements.
  • Monitor schedules, minimize public impacts, and report delays.
  • Train junior and seasonal inspectors as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

What the role requires:

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years' related experience.
  • Work requires well‑developed technical skills typically gained through a Civil Engineering Technology diploma, degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Municipal civil engineering knowledge required. C.Tech (OACETT) or higher preferred, or equivalent education/experience. Knowledge of detailed design, specifications, and construction management for municipal infrastructure.
  • Confined Spaces Training, Working at Heights and NASSCO pipeline assessment Certificate considered an asset.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of Region of Peel Standards and Specification and how they are to be applied
  • Solid understanding and experience related to water, wastewater and transportation systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to manage conflict
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS applications and ability to work with specific applications such as Basic Gov, Granite, Hansen, Aquapeel, CC&B, EIM, FIA and IPAL
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations. OHSA
  • Road Construction Inspector (rcca, rcsi or rcji) and/or or Municipal Infrastructure Inspector mii/mica designation certification with the Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is a preferred asset.
  • Water / Wastewater certification with the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) would be an asset.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License.  May be required to use your own vehicle for work travel and have appropriate vehicular insurance coverage.
  • A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted).
