Northern Lights Public Schools for the following position:

C Heavy Equipment Technician Pre-Employment Instructor

This is an asynchronous position from February 2 to July 10, 2026, with online learning and onsite lab instruction, for Northern Lights Public Schools, Northeast Alberta Collegiate Institute.

This unique cohort comprises learners from four different partner school divisions, requiring an instructor adept at managing and engaging a varied student body in a dynamic online environment.

About the Position

Northern Lights Public Schools, in partnership with Portage College, is actively seeking a highly motivated and engaged Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team in the Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver engaging theory and hands-on lab instruction to students in the HET program

  • Develop learning materials and assessments tailored for adult learners, which will include the use of various Microsoft Office programs, following college and program guidelines

  • Support student success by providing timely feedback and evaluations
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols in both classroom and lab settings, in line with Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where everyone feels valued
  • Continuously improve instructional practices to enhance student learning
  • Stay connected with industry professionals and regulatory bodies to ensure our program meets industry standards and best practices

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson certification; Red Seal preferred but not required
  • Extensive experience maintaining, repairing, and overhauling heavy vehicles, industrial heavy equipment, and commercial transport equipment
  • Adult instruction or tutoring experience will be considered an asset
  • Strong communication, administrative, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of or experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS) would be an asset
  • Proficient in computer skills, especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office applications
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a current police information check and driver's abstract
