AFPA is hiring for multiple contractor roles to support a province-wide, 2 year initiative focused on strengthening the competitiveness, productivity, and market readiness of Alberta's food and beverage processors. In addition to project delivery,
all roles contribute to the success of AFPA's existing programs, member services, and broader initiatives

Industry Navigator – Regulatory, Market & Scale-Up Full-Time)

Location: Alberta (Remote/hybrid; province-wide travel required)

Term: 24–30 months (with potential extension subject to funding)

Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 annually

Provide coaching to Alberta food and beverage SMEs. In addition to project activities, support AFPA's existing programs and membership by responding to inquiries and contributing expertise across the association's broader service offerings.

Key Responsibilities


• Provide coaching on labeling, licensing, foodsafety, co-packing, scale-up, innovation, and market readiness.


• Conduct SME intake assessments and develop action plans.


• Support retail, interprovincial, and export readiness.


• Deliver and/or oversee workshops and training.


• Connect SMEs to funding, experts, and ecosystem partners.


• Track outcomes, KPIs, and coaching impacts.


• Support AFPA member services through technical guidance and participation in ongoing programs.

Qualifications – Extensive Alberta Ecosystem & Sector Knowledge


• Demonstrated understanding of Alberta's food and beverage processing ecosystem, including SMEs, manufacturers, suppliers, co-packers, retailers, and service providers.


• Knowledge of relevant government funding programs.


• Experience navigating funding programs, cost-shared initiatives, and industry partnerships.


• Extensive food and beverage experience and knowledge in a variety of aspects of the industry.

Industry Navigator – Technology & Productivity Full-Time)

Location: Alberta (Remote/hybrid; province-wide travel required)

Term: 24–30 months (with potential extension subject to funding)

Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 annually

Supports SMEs in improving productivity through technology adoption, automation, digitization, and process optimization, while also contributing technical expertise to AFPA's existing programs and membership initiatives.

Key Responsibilities


• Assess manufacturing operations for efficiency improvements.


• Support ERP, automation, traceability, and digital adoption.


• Guide SMEs through technology selection and staged implementation.


• Assist with ROI analysis and funding pathways.


• Deliver/oversee digital literacy and innovation workshops.


• Track productivity gains and adoption outcomes.


• Support AFPA member services by advising on technology-related inquiries and initiatives.

Qualifications – Extensive Alberta Ecosystem & Sector Knowledge


• Strong understanding of Alberta's food and beverage processing landscape, including early-stage and scaling SMEs, rural processors, and value-added manufacturers.


• Practical knowledge of Alberta and Canadian regulatory environments affecting processors.


• Experience working within Alberta's agri-food ecosystem, including co-packers, food hubs, retailers, distributors, and export pathways.


• Familiarity with business supports, funding programs, and referral networks.
