Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Supervisor - Water, the Wastewater Collection Operator will be involved in all aspects of maintaining the municipal wastewater collection system. This includes inspections, investigation and/or maintenance work on sanitary mains and the associated lateral connections. This role will participate in a wide range of administration, construction, and operational activities related to the sanitary collection system(s). Must complete all regulatory training under Ont. Regulation 129/04, familiar with all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
Grade 12 or equivalent GED plus the completion of a 2-year Environmental Technician program.
Must have, at minimum, a MECP Class I Wastewater Collection License – Ont. Reg 129/04
Experience with the application of technical math and review of technical drawings.
Operate closed circuit inspection systems.
Have a Valid Ontario G level drivers license.
Satisfactory police clearance
Experience with computer application in a windows environment including work order systems and SCADA Systems.
Option to obtain MECP Class II Wastewater Collection License – Ont. Reg 129/04.
Must have a DZ Licences with Air Brake Endorsement or be obtained within 12 months of employment.
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of Traffic Control and Book 7.
Knowledge of sanitary systems and associated maintenance programs, including locate requirements, hydro excavation, construction processes and health and safety.
Must have knowledge and awareness of compliance to legislation and regulatory requirements.
Resolving sewer blockage and identification of collapsed main and laterals, including minicam inspections and video review.
Ability to complete manhole inspections and rehabilitation recommendations, and associated repairs.
Ability to utilize computer software programs and documentation of daily activities using a work order program.
Knowledge and ability to locate sanitary infrastructure for internal and external agencies.
Ability to respond to emergency situations (e.g., sewer main blockage and assist with Pumping Station situation).
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain and repair sanitary mains and sanitary laterals.
Inspect sanitary mains and lateral connections for repairs.
Work with contractors in the repair of sanitary mains, performing trenching, shoring and backfill.
Examines and tests sanitary sewer to determine cause of main failure (i.e., source identification – visual, video, etc.).
Serve in emergency on-call situations, provide customer service and repairs during after hours periods.
Perform work in confined spaces with potential hazardous atmosphere.
Utilizes safety skills with respects to specialized protection equipment including respiration, ventilator, gas monitors, harness and hoisting equipment.
Report any hazards and near miss accidents to the Team Leader.
Must participate in mandatory training as prescribed by the Corporation.
Adhere to OHSA as well the Municipality of Lakeshore Health and Safety Policies and Procedures including WHMIS.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including MECP guidelines and maintain required documentation and record keeping.
Participate in the on-call rotation (after-hours) for Operator in Charge (OIC) responsibilities in accordance with applicable certifications.
May be required to act as Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) in accordable with applicable certifications and demonstrated experience and judgment, at the discretion of management.

Work is performed within established guidelines of Municipality policy and provincial regulations.

On-call rotation subject to the terms of the collective agreement with IBEW local 636
