Position Purpose and Summary
The Recreation Coordinator works closely with the Manager of Recreation & Assistant Manager of Recreation to provide recreational opportunities for the members of the University community. The coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, administration and teaching to the student training, personal training, group fitness and well-being programs offered at TWU. They will also assist with managing TWU Summer Camps.
Key Areas of Accountability
- Plan, implement and support the fitness programs and their student leaders
- Teach weekly fitness classes as needed, with the purpose of recruiting staff and faculty
- Oversee the TWU Student Trainer Program
- Oversee the recruitment of personal trainers, student trainers and fitness Instructors
- Monitor and provide resources to personal trainers hired as independent contractors at TWU
- Ensure all required documentation is up to date for personal trainers, student trainers, which includes, but is not limited to, training certifications, Insurance, first aid certifications, etc.
- Provide hiring, training and mentorship to students taking on roles in personal training, fitness Instruction and well-being
- Plan, organize, implement, and review well-being programming for the TWU Community through the well-being ambassador student leaders
- Collaborate with the Athletic Facilities staff on providing fitness center orientations and other similar fitness support and expertise to fitness center members
- Provide regular Inspections of equipment for fitness classes and recommend upgrades and replacements as necessary, and otherwise ensure the safety of all participants in all fitness, Instructional or training programs
- Maintain detailed records on the program's revenue, budget, demand, client feedback, Instructor/trainer feedback, and participation numbers
- Communicate with the appropriate Individuals regarding booking of venues for Internal and external use, while ensuring optimal scheduling for all recreational programs
- Interview, select, train, and provide accountability to recreation student leaders and student employees
- Support the Assistant Manager of Recreation in the planning and Implementation of student leadership activities, which include, but are not limited to: team meetings, SLOW, winter retreat, and teambuilding activities
- Assist the manager of recreation with the Implementation of marketing and advertising Initiatives with the support of the social engagement team, student leaders
- Monitor and evaluate operational effectiveness, and implement changes required for improvement within recreational programs.
- Support the Recreation department at university events when needed, which include, but are not limited to: Preview Days, EXPO, O-Day, and Homecoming
- Manage the recreation risk management protocols for all recreation-sanctioned activities
- Provide assistance with administration, hiring and operational logistics for the TWU summer camp programs

Standards & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics, recreation, fitness, or related field
Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in recreational programming with specific knowledge of fitness programming (personal training, group fitness, etc.) and summer camps operations. Current NSCA-CPT and current first aid certification are required prior to the first day.
