We are currently looking for a Technical Lead with deep enterprise WordPress experience — ideally including WordPress VIP — who can guide architecture, lead complex builds, and support our development team in delivering high-quality digital solutions.
About the Role
As our Technical Lead, you will define technical vision and standards for enterprise WordPress projects, guide architectural decision-making, support delivery teams, and ensure the performance, scalability, and security of the platforms we build. Although our stack includes modern JavaScript frameworks (React, , ) and cloud technologies, this role is primarily focused on leading enterprise WordPress development in a VIP environment. You will collaborate closely with design, product, project management, and engineering teams to deliver exceptional digital experiences for our clients.
What You Will Be Doing
Enterprise WordPress Architecture & Development
  • Lead the design and development of large-scale WordPress solutions, including headless and traditional architectures.
  • Architect performant, secure, scalable systems aligned with WordPress VIP standards, tooling, and workflows.
  • Oversee custom plugin and theme development, and ensure code meets VIP coding standards.
  • Optimize performance via caching strategies (object caching, Redis), CDN setup, query optimization, and scalable hosting configurations.
  • Provide technical direction on multisite architectures, migrations, integrations, and complex workflows.

Technical Leadership
  • Define technical frameworks, patterns, and best practices for the engineering team.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure high standards of code quality, testing, deployment, and documentation.
  • Identify risks early and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure accessibility, security, and performance are integrated into project delivery.

Project Delivery & Collaboration
  • Support sales and strategy teams in technical scoping and solution design.
  • Plan and prioritize engineering work; break down large epics into actionable tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with PMs, developers, QA, and designers to ensure alignment on timelines and deliverables.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for clients and communicate complex concepts in a clear, business-friendly way.
  • Lead sprint ceremonies, demos, and architecture discussions.

Coaching & Mentorship
  • Provide guidance, pairing, and ongoing support for developers.
  • Contribute to onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for team members.
  • Act as an escalation point for technical blockers and support continuous learning and growth.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to enhance internal workflows, tooling, and processes.
  • Contribute to reusable code libraries, boilerplates, and internal documentation.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their relevance to our clients.

What You Need to Succeed
Required Experience
  • 7+ years of progressive web development experience, including 2+ years in a lead or architect capacity.
  • Proven experience delivering enterprise-level WordPress projects with high performance and scalability requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with WordPress VIP (VIP Go, VIP coding standards, automated scanning, GitHub workflows, VIP best practices).
  • Strong experience building custom plugins, modular themes, and integrations using modern PHP and WordPress architecture patterns.
  • Experience in digital agencies or tech consultancies delivering medium to large projects.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients, gathering requirements, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.

Technical Skills
  • Deep WordPress expertise (architecture, security, performance, extensibility).
  • Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Git, and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with modern frameworks such as React, , and (nice-to-have but not the core of the role).
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of SEO, analytics, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) is an asset.
