Position Summary:

Oversees the Nation's water and waste water systems to ensure that they are adequately supplying the Nation's community buildings with sufficient potable water source and water storage and removal. Hourly water and wastewater systems to ensure that they are adequately water storage and removal. Located in Opitsaht (Meares Island), Tofino, BC.

The Operations and Maintenance Worker oversees the Nation's waterworks infrastructure to ensure that these systems are maintained and provide the Nation's members with quality resources. This position upholds the culture of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations by providing the Nation's members with a community that recognizes itsmembers' worth and quality of life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Potable Water & Waste Water Systems

  • Oversee the maintenance of the waterworks infrastructure.
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and semi-annual preventative maintenance and performance checks on the potable water and wastewater systems in accordance with the established maintenance scheduled.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with the potable water and wastewater systems and, if necessary, request the assistance of a third-party contractor.
  • Respond to any alarm notifications in a timely manner.
  • Identify, anticipate, and request needed supplies or equipment to ensure an uninterrupted and continuous operation of the potable water and wastewater systems.
  • Follow and adhere to the established operations and maintenance manual.
  • Maintain a record of all maintenance work performed. standards and government regulations.

Housing Maintenance

  • Provide additional support to the Geothermal Operator and housing/other maintenance staff.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years experience in a maintenance role

Knowledge:

  • Buildings and infrastructure practices and regulations, public works and utilities practices and principles, waterworks, basic math and chemistry

Skills and abilities:

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment, communication skills, able towork independently and without supervision, able to read technical drawings andmanuals, time management
  • Problem solver, customer-oriented, critical thinking, attention to detail
  • Preference for a qualified Aboriginal candidate
  • Post secondary diploma, or certificate in a related maintenance field

Working Environment:

  • Works primarily onsite at the remote water or waste water facility.
  • May be required to work outdoors and as such may be exposed to inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to hazards associated with working with electrical equipment.
  • May be required to respond to emergency situations, regardless of time of day.

Physical requirements :

  • Good health, allowing one to perform physical tasks throughout the day, including bending, lifting, carrying, walking.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • May be required to lift or carry heavy items over 20lbs.
  • Must be able to be mobile and visit locations that can only be accessed by stairs or rough, uneven ground.

Travel Requirements:

  • Required to travel by car.
  • Required to travel by boat

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.68-$30.24 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
