Job
Summary:

The
Building Service Support Worker at Phoenix Society is responsible for keeping buildings in a clean and orderly condition. The position is
expected to perform light to heavy cleaning duties. Other duties may include
tending to the furnace and boiler; performing routine maintenance activities;
cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, and washing walls and glass; removing
garbage; notifying management of need for repairs; and cleaning snow or debris
from sidewalks.

Responsibilities:

Custodial
Services

  • Clean
    building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming
  • Gather
    and empty all garbage, recycling and compost bins
  • Service,
    clean and supply restrooms
  • Clean
    and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Clean
    windows, glass partitions and mirrors
  • Dust
    furniture, walls, machines and equipment
  • Steam-clean
    and/or shampoo carpets or rugs
  • Strip,
    seal, finish and polish floors
  • Follow
    procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
  • Move
    heavy furniture, equipment and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks.
    Notify Maintenance of any furniture or equipment requiring repair or
    replacement
  • Remove
    snow and debris from sidewalks, in accordance with City bylaws
  • Performs
    housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, dusting,
    washing dishes, performs laundry duties such as washing linens and clothing.
  • Notify
    the campus manager for follow-up when unauthorized persons are observed to be
    on the grounds or within buildings
  • Notify
    the campus manager for follow-up when clients are observed to be breaking
    Phoenix Society policies, procedures or guidelines
  • Using
    appropriate tools, collect and dispose of drug paraphenalia, trash and feces
    from the entranceways and walkways immediately adjacent to the buildings
  • Set
    up, arrange and remove decorations, tables and chairs to prepare facilities for
    events such as banquets and meetings
  • Perform
    other duties as requested

Maintenance
Services

  • Open
    and/or close buildings, check alarm systems, and check premises to guard
    against theft, fire, illegal entry, etc.
  • Monitor
    building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after
    cleaning and checking electrical appliances to ensure that hazards are not
    created
  • Conduct
    minor maintenance such as unclogging toilets, changing lightbulbs that are
    reachable from the floor, and small drywall repairs
  • Notify
    Maintenance concerning the need for major repairs, minor renovations, i.e.,
    patch and paint, or additions to building operating systems
  • Submit
    to Maintenance Requisition for supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and
    maintenance duties. Receive and distribute supplies and equipment
  • Monitor
    the facility for insect and other pest infestations. When required, notify
    Maintenance to have a pest management contractor dispatched to site
  • Inspect
    and clean dryer vents weekly. Notify Maintenance of any if repairs are required
  • Maintains
    and organizes cleaning equipment, materials and supplies
  • Greet
    contractors at the campus front office and escort them to the job site
  • Perform
    other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Building
    Service Worker certificate with WHMIS training, or equivalent
  • 1
    to 3 years of experience providing custodial and maintenance services
  • Ability
    to lift heavy loads as required is required
  • Satisfactory
    completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is
    required
  • Satisfactory
    completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
  • Satisfactory
    completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
  • First
    aid certification with CPR is required
