JMIR Publications is seeking qualified individuals to take on editorial responsibility as Editor-in-Chief for its newest JMIRx superjournal, JMIRx Bio. JMIRx Bio is part of a new publishing model conceptualized by JMIR Publications CEO and Founding Publisher, Gunther Eysenbach, MD, MPH, FACMI, called Plan P – a progressive framework and platform for institutions and funders to promote open science.
Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with the Founding Publisher and the Editorial Department, a successful Editor-in-Chief candidate will lead this innovative journal in promoting open science through partnerships between progressive academic institutions, peer review services, and the scientific community. In addition to upholding editorial strategy, publication quality, and research integrity, the candidate also:
- Sources and works with a diverse and highly skilled editorial board to shape, lead, and execute the journal's vision
- Leads the journal team towards achieving the priorities and objectives for the journal
- Collaborates with the JMIR Publications team to create and implement a strategy to strengthen and grow the journal's operation and impact
- Encourages and solicits the submission of manuscripts (preprints) from colleagues and leading researchers
Education
- PhD and/or MD and/or doctoral degree equivalent in the biological or life sciences, biomedical fields, or a related discipline
Experience
- Active scientist or academic clinician who is internationally recognized and has expertise in biological or life sciences, biomedical fields, or a related discipline
- History of publishing with journals and scholarly publications in their field(s) of expertise
- Editorial experience as a journal editor, and/or deputy or associate editor in a biomedical journal with experience in the peer review process and communicating with authors, reviewers, and publishers
- Thought leader that can drive strategy and innovation in publishing, foster a community of authors, editors, and reviewers, and solicit high-quality research from leading authors in the field
- Familiar with reporting standards, ethical guidelines for publishing, and be aware of the current new developments and changes in the publishing environment

CompensationAn honorarium will be commensurate with the journal and candidate's experience.
