Junior Publicist
Description:
NYRE is building a global dark-pop career out of Toronto — aiming for viral moments, cult fanbase growth, and future arena tours. We're hiring a hungry, detail-obsessed Junior Publicist / PR Coordinator to help turn NYRE from "this artist you found online" into a name people keep seeing across press, playlists, and culture. This is an entry-level, part-time freelance role, ideal for a PR/communications student or early-mid career publicist.
Responsibilities:
- Shape and sharpen NYRE's artist story into clear, reusable press language (short + long bio, key angles)
- Build and maintain a living EPK (bio, photos, links, key stats) in Google Drive
- Research and create a targeted list of blogs, playlists, podcasts, and media contacts that make sense for dark pop / alt / online culture
- Draft and send personalized pitches around releases, videos, shows, and other key moments
- Track outreach and responses, and flag warm leads/opportunities
- Provide a short monthly recap of placements, replies, and next-step ideas
Requirements:
- Strong interest in music, pop culture, and artist storytelling
- Solid writing skills (comfortable drafting bios, emails, and pitches that sound human, not corporate)
- Basic understanding of how PR/media works (EPK, pitch, etc.)
- Comfortable with research and outreach: finding contacts, emailing editors/curators, and following up professionally
- Organized and reliable (you can manage a small and focused workload each month and hit deadlines)
- Bonus if you're in Toronto or Canada, but remote applicants are welcome
Compensation & Perks:
- Flexible hours — work around school, another job, or other clients
- Creative credits on placements and campaigns you contribute to
- Access to behind-the-scenes planning, strategy calls, and the NYRE inner circle
- Opportunities to attend music industry events and live shows when possible (especially if based in Toronto)
Future Growth Opportunities:
This role is designed to grow with the project. As NYRE scales (more releases, bigger shows, brand partnerships, larger campaigns), there will be opportunities for:
- Increased monthly retainer and hours
- Expanded responsibilities across Canadian and international PR
- A clearer track toward a lead PR / Communications role on the NYRE team
If you're the type of person who wants to one day say, "I was on the PR side of this artist before everything blew up," this is built for you.
Job Types: Part-time, Casual, Freelance, Internship / Co-op
