Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a junior to intermediate Hazardous Materials Field Technician to join our team in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will conduct activities including hazardous building materials assessments and abatement projects, mould investigations and remediation projects, indoor air quality investigations and worker exposure assessments. This is a great opportunity to work with subject matter experts in this field providing training and mentorship to build a unique skill set for your career progression.

As a Hazardous Materials Consultant, you will be expected to carry out sampling services for clients and conduct occupational hygiene work, which includes, but is not limited to, air sampling, asbestos air sample analysis, hazardous building materials and mold assessments, and maintaining appropriate records for all aspects of the project. You must also have the ability to complete work in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate will need key skills such as good interpersonal and communication skills, excellent time management, fluency with the Microsoft Office suite, good client relations, and attention to detail. Additionally, organizational skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, technical writing skills, and basic management and calibration of equipment are essential.

The role has a field component, and the successful candidate can expect to be at least 75/25 field/office based, with out-of-town travel required. 

Field work would include conducting hazardous building materials assessments, mould and indoor air quality investigations, developing specifications, authoring reports, asbestos management plans. Work may also involve oversight of abatement and remediation activities, and collection of air samples for asbestos, lead, and mould. Practical experience of two (2) years or more is required.

Role accountabilities:

The applicant will be expected to perform hazardous building material assessments (asbestos, lead, mould, etc.); perform hazardous building material abatement projects (asbestos, lead, mould, etc.), perform mould investigations and basic indoor air quality assessments; manage field notes; prepare technical reports; develop an understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis and of client businesses to enable personal performance improvement and career development.

The applicant should have knowledge of relevant provincial, national standards and codes of practice.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science, Building Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Occupational Health and Safety
  • Level S Asbestos Survey Training, WorkSafeBC
  • 2+ years practical experience conducting hazardous building material surveys, with experience in BC preferred. Arcadis will provide training to build skill sets with career progression
  • Able and willing to travel to site for extended time (max 2-week rotation)
  • Physical requirement: ability to lift 30 pounds in weight
  • Valid Drivers License

The salary range for this position is $66,000-99,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
