What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will support the Services digital evidence management processes associated to video and other digital evidence required to support community safety and wellbeing in Toronto. You will review, edit and ensure the flow of digital evidence from various systems managed by Records Management Services - Digital Evidence Management section. You will provide critical support to digital evidence information flows between the Service and stakeholders. You will answer inquiries and provide support to Service members as well as outside agencies regarding requests, and enable the fulsome use of related technology by all members of the Service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Confidentially manage digital evidence to preserve privacy and ensure safety of all parties involved.
- Work collaboratively with Primary Response and Investigative Units, Court Services, Ministry of Attorney General s Office, and other key stakeholders to ensure the timely disclosure of video-related digital evidence.
- Receive and process video evidence (DVD statements, seized surveillance, Service surveillance/scene footage, booking/breath video, Body-Worn Camera (BWC), ICC, ALPR, etc.) Ensure submitted requests and forms comply with procedures and notify the applicable Unit Commander of any errors. Enter video evidence into VTMS, VDX, VEST Lite and Axon Evidence (EDC).
- Provide necessary training to team members and colleagues on the best practices for digital evidence management technology.
- Perform various tasks related to the video evidence disclosure process which includes reviewing requests; researching databases such as VDX, TPS Global Search, DVAMS and EDC; locating and extracting original video(s) from library (VTMS); the DVD/CD/video duplication process; and, packaging cases for each court location, ensuring the video integrity/continuity of each outgoing court bin. Make certain that tasks are completed in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform editing duties required for disclosure including redaction of personal identifiers to ensure anonymity for public safety. Download video evidence from systems such as the DVAMS, DAMS, ICC, Public Space Closed Circuit Television (PSCCTV), EDC as well as other systems that may fall under the responsibility of video evidence.
- Prepare Will Say or Voir Dire documents as directed; may be required to attend court.
- Answer inquiries and provides support to Service members and outside agencies regarding requests, video format issues etc.
- Receive and load large waste receptacles with physical video evidence for destruction (DVD s, etc.).
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies including appropriate CDs/DVDs. Maintain DVD disc printers and inspects blank or returned CDs/DVDs to ensure quality and integrity.
- Maintain and report any equipment deficiencies. May be required to attend off site facilities for equipment repairs.
- Perform typical duties inherent to the position.
Skills/Competencies:
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or an approved equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must have a minimum of one year related experience such as providing administrative and/or technical support in the context of evidence management, criminal court processes, legal proceedings, disclosure requests, case management.
- A valid Ontario Driver s License G class and a Toronto Police Service Blue Card" considered an asset.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills as well as the ability to work within established time frames and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and customer service and computer skills are required.
- Ability to deal with graphic and disturbing evidence. Will be exposed and subjected to sensitive material.
- Must be able to work independently and use own initiative to effectively resolve problems and contribute to enhance Unit processes.
- Working knowledge of VDX, VTMS, Axon , ICC Arbitrator, TPS Global Search and DVAMS would be considered an asset.
