An opportunity exists for a Summer Student P&C Telecom System Technologist in the Field Operations team based at our Rocky View County facility. Reporting to the Manager, P&C Telecom South, this position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the AltaLink Transmission system with a focus on the Telecommunications system and P&C. The successful candidate will be required to follow all AltaLink work methods, policies and procedures and will be expected to reside in the greater Calgary area.    

NOTE: The start date is May 2026, and the length of the term is 4 months.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain Protection & Control and Telecommunication devices associated with AltaLink's transmission system.
• Interact constructively with Field Operations, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, System Operations, and other departments within AltaLink.
• Develop Field Level Hazard Assessments/ Safe Work Plans, perform P&C Telecommunications work safely and ensure a high level of reliability to our customers.
• Trouble response for Protection & Control and Telecommunication equipment in the area.
• Assist and support other disciplines as required.

Qualifications:

• Full-time student enrolled in a related and recognized two years Electrical, Wireless, Telecom, or Electronics Engineering Technology program.
• Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
• Knowledge and adherence to safety practices, procedures, and standards required.
• Be competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build rapport.
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers.
• Ability to work independently and part of a team.
• Have a valid Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Drivers abstract to be provided upon interview.
• Capable of passing the physical fitness and medical requirements.
• Able to work alone with a minimum of supervision and respond to afterhours trouble calls.
• Willing to accept out of town working conditions.
• Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
• Proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
