Emergency Sessional Instructional Assistant - MAT135H5 Differential Calculus (emg posting). Review of functions and their graphs, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms. Limits and continuity of functions of a single variable. Derivatives and differentiation techniques.

Dates of Appointment: 01 Janaury April 2026

Qualifications: Strong grades in a minimum of 3.0 FCEs of mathematics courses, including at least 1.0 FCEs of primarily proof-based courses. Note that "MAT-like" courses offered in different departments do not count towards the FCE requirement as they do not adhere to the standards of rigour used in mathematics courses. In the alternative, applicants whose portfolio includes at least 2.0 FCEs of MAT specialist classes will be deemed to have satisfied the FCE requirement. The candidate must have strong grades and demonstrated knowledge of the course content and beyond; have a demonstrated record of commitment to teaching pedagogy and student learning; have a demonstrated record of timeliness in communication and carrying out duties; and possess excellent communication skills and professionalism.

Teaching experience preferred

Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Duties: Will include some of the following: running tutorials, marking, invigilation, office hours, preparatory work, and other duties of administering the course.

Estimated course enrolment: 500 students

Rate of Pay: $54.27 per hour plus 4% vacation pay

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
