Course Title: MUI2095HY - Capstone Course
Class Schedule: Winter Term: Wednesdays 2PM – 5PM
Dates of Appointment: January 1st, 2026 – April 30th, 2026
Description of Course: All students in the program will complete a capstone course in their second year that will draw upon the academic background and training provided in both their core and elective courses, as well as the practical experience gained through their summer internship to analyze a key problem or challenge in economic development and provide both the analytical and governance components of an integrated solution to the problem. The focus of the projects will be on demonstrating integration, application, and innovation skills to address challenges in managing the process of urban development.
Position Description: All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: weekly lectures or workshops; meeting with students to guide/advise them on their capstone project and assignments; holding weekly office hours; organizing and executing the final presentation/showcase with support from the Employer & External Relations Manager; marking/evaluating all student assignments; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; communicating with students on course-related matters; supervising and monitoring student progress on the project; designing course content and assignments in close consultation with the Program Director, faculty, and staff (this includes but is not limited to identifying and scoping potential student projects); and liaising with potential clients, the Program Director, and the Employer & External Relations Manager regarding course content and curriculum.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. (geography, planning, political science or related field) preferred or relevant/equivalent industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience and demonstrated ability in teaching a similar course.
Salary (half course 0.5FCE): Minimum $ as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement (includes 4% vacation pay).
Anticipated Enrollment: 14
