About SWAT Projects

SWAT Projects is a Calgary-based engineering services firm specializing in small-to-medium capital projects, facility retrofits, and brownfield/O&M work. We focus on helping clients execute capital programs that demand both agility and technical depth. Our teams bring senior-level attention and practical field experience to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and with lasting value.

Our size gives us the advantage of being responsive, integrated, and client-focused — every project benefits from senior-level oversight and practical field expertise. By combining disciplined execution with a collaborative mindset, we help clients move projects from concept to completion with confidence, creating value that lasts well beyond the final handover.

The Role

As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer, you will lead the delivery of electrical engineering design across brownfield and small-to-medium capital projects. Reporting to the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Manager, you will be responsible for developing and authenticating engineering deliverables, managing project execution for electrical scope, and mentoring junior team members.

This role combines technical design, project management, and client-facing responsibilities, ensuring electrical systems are safe, practical, and aligned with client specifications.

You will:

  • Design and develop electrical deliverables including load lists, single-line diagrams, layouts, grounding drawings, control panels, control loops, cable schedules, heat trace design, and area classification drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations (voltage drop, cable sizing, tray sizing, fugitive emission studies).
  • Support power system studies (familiarity is an asset).
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain during RFQ cycles by preparing technical requirements, reviewing vendor data, and contributing to technical bid evaluations.
  • Review project scope documents (DBMs, framing documents, deliverable lists, estimates) to align deliverables with project requirements.
  • Authenticate drawings with your P.Eng. stamp.
  • Provide project management for all EIC deliverables.
  • Coordinate with designers, engineers, and other disciplines to ensure constructability and integration.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to skill development within the team.
  • Conduct periodic site visits for scoping, inspections, technical meetings, and FATs/SATs.
  • Follow QA/QC procedures to ensure all deliverables meet SWAT and client standards.

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • P.Eng. registration with APEGA (or eligibility to register).
  • 7–12 years of industry experience in electrical engineering.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to lead electrical scope on small-to-medium capital projects.
  • Strong communication and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs in a multi-project environment.
  • Ability to both provide and integrate constructive feedback, supporting collaboration across levels.
  • Ability to meet and follow internal and client site safety practices including drug and alcohol testing policies if required.

Preferred

  • P.Eng. registration with EGBC and APEGS (or eligibility to register).
  • Familiarity with medium-voltage systems (2.4 kV–69 kV).
  • Experience with fugitive emission and/or power system studies.
  • Oil & gas/energy industry project experience, including brownfield environments.
