Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer Location: Sudbury, Ontario, Canada Job Description WSP’s Resources subsector, a key component of the Energy, Resources, and Industry section (ERI), supports clients across Canada with a full range of services for industrial and mining projects, from conceptual feasibility studies to detailed engineering, EPCM, and site closure. We are seeking an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Sudbury, reporting to the Manager‑Electrical Engineering. The role involves leading the design and optimization of electrical power distribution and control systems for new construction and brownfield projects, applying engineering knowledge from concept to completion, and guiding a team of designers. Responsibilities Design and optimize electrical power distribution and control systems for heavy industrial projects. Conduct power systems studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and use software like ETAP and Easy Power. Prepare specifications, data sheets, and design documentation for switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, lighting, and protection systems. Integrate safety and risk analysis into equipment designs. Perform engineering calculations and prepare technical reports and construction specifications. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, attend client site visits, and conduct field reviews. Manage design projects, coordinate with other departments, assist with cost estimating, and build client relationships. Mentor junior staff and support design management decisions. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of electrical engineering design experience supporting heavy industrial projects. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario (registration in other provinces/states is a benefit). Working knowledge of CSA, ANSI, IEEE standards, Ontario Building Code, and other applicable codes. Experience with power system modelling software and design tools. Knowledge of power distribution, grounding, lightning protection, cable support, fire alarm systems, heat tracing, and cathodic protection. Ability to travel to client sites and work in industrial environments. Project experience in mills, smelters, mines, refineries, ports, material handling, pulp and paper, or renewable energy systems is beneficial. Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, controls, communications, and automation is a benefit; PLC, DCS, HMI programming ability is a benefit. Valid driver’s license. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and Microsoft Office proficiency. Team‑player attitude and ability to work in a project team environment.
