Position Summary
The Senior Director, Academic Program Development is a senior academic leadership role responsible for the strategic design, development, approval, and continuous improvement of academic programs at CMU College of Makeup Art and Design. This role ensures that all programs meet regulatory requirements under Ontario's career college framework while maintaining CMU's creative excellence, industry relevance, and student-centered outcomes.
The successful candidate will lead new program development initiatives, oversee curriculum renewal, ensure compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, and collaborate closely with faculty, compliance, operations, and industry partners.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Program Development & Strategy
- Lead the design, development, and revision of academic programs, including diplomas, certificates, and short-term programs in makeup artistry and related creative fields
- Ensure programs align with CMU's academic vision, brand positioning, and industry trends
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to support new program proposals
- Develop program structures, learning outcomes, course outlines, assessment frameworks, and delivery models
Regulatory Compliance & Approvals
- Oversee program approvals, renewals, and amendments in compliance with the Ontario Career Colleges Act and related regulations
- Work closely with Compliance and Operations teams to prepare submissions for regulators and accrediting bodies
- Ensure tuition, fee structures, program hours, and credential outcomes are compliant and accurately documented
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as required
Curriculum Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Establish and maintain academic quality standards across all programs
- Lead periodic curriculum reviews and updates to ensure relevance, rigor, and compliance
- Incorporate feedback from students, instructors, alumni, and industry advisors
- Ensure instructional materials and assessments meet academic and professional standards
Faculty & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with instructors, Program Coordinators, and academic leadership on curriculum delivery and improvement
- Provide academic guidance and support to faculty during program launches and revisions
- Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Admissions, Student Services, and Operations to ensure accurate program representation and effective implementation
Industry Engagement & Innovation
- Maintain strong relationships with industry professionals and advisory committees
- Integrate industry best practices, emerging trends, and employer expectations into program design
- Support the development of innovative delivery formats (hybrid, modular, intensive, etc.)
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Academic Leadership, or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in academic program development, preferably in a private career college or post-secondary environment
- 15+ years of experience in post secondary academic background
- Strong knowledge of Ontario private career college regulations and compliance requirements
- Proven experience leading program approvals, curriculum design, and regulatory submissions
- Excellent written, analytical, and organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience in creative arts, fashion, beauty, or design education
- Familiarity with makeup artistry training standards and industry certifications
- Experience working with audits, inspections, and government regulators
- Leadership experience managing academic projects or teams
