About the Organization

The objective of the Centre for Water Resources Studies (CWRS) is to apply the research resources of Dalhousie University in a manner that will address real problems in water resources that exist or are anticipated in Nova Scotia, the Atlantic region and beyond.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, HW Water and Wastewater Operations Research, the Technologist, HW Water and Wastewater Operations Research will support water and wastewater treatment-focused research projects with Halifax Water as part of an NSERC Alliance Partnership. The purpose of this role is to strengthen on-site research collaboration with Halifax Water to ensure that individual research projects advance to meet the overarching program goals of our NSERC Alliance Partnership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring, operating, and calibrating bench- and pilot-scale water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of associated sensor instrumentation.
  • Help set up and operate bench and pilot treatment systems according to research plans and experimental designs.
  • Travel to various field sites to collect samples as required by research projects. Collect water and wastewater samples in the lab and field using standard methods. Conduct basic laboratory analyses following established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental data, system operations, and maintenance activities.

Note

The position requires the successful candidate to work on-site at pilot-scale water and wastewater treatment facilities located in full-scale water and wastewater treatment facilities which are industrial in nature.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on research field sites.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline with a minimum of two years of experience in a research setting.
  • Data organization skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license.

Assets

  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in water and wastewater research, including laboratory work and field sampling.
