Reporting to the Associate Dean, Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design, the Senior Technologist, Media and Creative Technologist (the Senior Technologist) plays a key role in supporting teaching, learning, and creative production across film, animation, virtual production, and content-creation programs. This position ensures that students and faculty have consistent access to well-maintained equipment, safe production environments, and industry-standard workflows. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and program leadership, the Senior Technologist contributes technical expertise and operational oversight to help sustain innovative, future-focused learning experiences. The Senior Technologist supports equipment planning and purchasing with other technologists and program coordinators in the Media Cluster.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting day-to-day technical operations across FAAD clusters with primary responsibility to the Media Cluster with secondary support to Animation and Game Design cluster and the virtual production studio.
  • Operating and maintaining professional film and content creation equipment, including cameras, lighting, grip, capture systems, and digital workstations.
  • Supporting live-action, animation, and virtual production lab environments.
  • Providing technical support for faculty and student-led research, experimentation, and applied studio or production work, ensuring safe, efficient, and industry-aligned use of facilities, equipment, and workflows.
  • Maintaining equipment inventory and software, repairs, and procurement, ensuring safe, accessible, and ergonomic learning spaces.
  • Liaising with the Central Equipment Room (CER) across the Media and Animation and Game Design Cluster.
  • Contributing to the program's technical budget, making recommendations on capital purchases, operational requirements, and leases or rentals.
  • Coordinating scheduling and assignments of PT technologist, external contractors and student employees.
  • Developing policies and procedures for student use of program's equipment and facilities Produce instructional manuals and videos maintains the internal knowledge base.
  • Supporting renovation and/or upgrade of classrooms and labs to meet the standard for Health and Safety.
  • Contributing to the equipment database, scheduling of student production, and facilities schedules.
  • Liaising with facilities department, IT, faculty and technologists to ensure technologies and workflows are implemented within required specifications.
  • Representing Sheridan during visits from dignitaries and special interest groups.
  • Conducting tours of department studios and facilities to potential students, new faculty members, visitors, and dignitaries.
    Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 3-year diploma/degree in Film production, Broadcast Television or a related field along with a minimum of 8-years demonstrated experience with digital cinema and immersive cameras, lighting systems, and on-set workflows.; multi-camera broadcast, web production and streaming; networking, and knowledge of PC, Mac and computer systems; and digital media technologies.
  • Experience in an educational environment would be considered an asset.
