The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an arm's-length federal agency responsible for the shared stewardship of the lands and waters that make up the Port of Vancouver, Canada's largest port. The
environmental coordinator – infrastructure projects
(term for a period up to 4 years) provides support for the planning and implementing of environmental programs relating to port authority led infrastructure projects. This includes environmental impact assessment, mitigation program planning and implementation, and monitoring. This position supports coordination and communications with internal port authority contacts, and external coordination with regulators, Indigenous groups and stakeholders regarding environmental programs for port authority infrastructure projects.
What You Do
- Assist in the development of detailed environmental effect mitigation and monitoring work plans.
- Provide support in the administration of environmental mitigation and program delivery, including overseeing specialist consultants to support the mitigation programs as required. Work with specialist consultant teams and contribute to their work as required.
- Monitor plan implementation and progress.
- Tabulate and present monitoring data and assist in the interpretation of its significance, with support from specialist consultants as appropriate.
- Provide port authority representation at meetings with environmental regulatory agencies, community, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders and, where appropriate, assist in facilitating competing priorities to ensure port authority interests are met.
- Provide support for port authority initiatives such as sustainability and environmental programs, and external engagement.
- Assist in field programs and site visits (as required)
- Write briefing papers, business cases, submissions, reports and presentations to support project planning and compliance.
- Coordinate the planning, execution, monitoring, reporting, and closing of various projects.
- Track open action items, issues and risks and ensure timely resolution.
- Assist with the preparation of project cost estimates and progress reports. Prepare high level schedules for project delivery and resource management purposes.
- Assist in overseeing site investigation, topographic surveys and other environmental preconstruction and construction contracts.
- Coordinate and participate in communication and consultation with project stakeholders, including municipalities, road and rail authorities' adjacent communities and First Nations.
- Report on project status through various internal project tracking systems. Participate in the preparation of monthly project status reports.
- Assist with the development and implementation of guidelines and other documents to support workflow processes.
- Participate in health and safety initiatives and comply with established policy, procedures and guidelines to protect yourself and your work colleagues. Report concerns, hazards, risks and incidents to management for follow-up.
What You Bring
- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Geology, Geo-Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering or other acceptable university degree.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental impact assessment, construction environmental monitoring, or other directly related experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
- Must have applied experience in environmental aspects of project development, procurement, and contract administration.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
- Must have excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft office tools.
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and positively with all contacts, internally and externally.
- Must be able to work independently, accurately and on own initiative to maintain work output with minimum supervision.
- Must be a highly organized and detailed-oriented individual who can manage competing priorities and perform multiple tasks as required.

Working environment:
Normal office conditions with occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions on operating terminals, roadways and surrounding areas. Required to work off hours occasionally.
