Job Summary
The Director, School of Access, Information, and Lifespan Learning provides academic and strategic leadership for the school, ensuring the development and administration of high-quality programs, faculty engagement, and community partnerships. The Director is responsible for curriculum and program development, faculty recruitment, budgeting, educational planning, enrolment management, and accreditation oversight.
This position fosters an entrepreneurial and innovative learning environment, ensuring UFV's Education, Community, and Human Development programs maintain accreditation and industry relevance. The Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to drive experiential learning, research, and responsible education management.
The Director provides oversight and strategic direction for a diverse portfolio of programs designed to support learners at every stage of their educational journey. This includes Upgrading and University Preparation programs that facilitate foundational access to higher education, as well as the Adult Education (ADED) degree and certificate programs focused on the principles and practices of lifelong learning in community and workplaces. The school also houses the Information Studies department, which prepares students for data and library management, and Child, Youth, and Family Studies, focusing on human development and community well-being. Additionally, the Director supports specialized vocational pathways such as the Applied Business Technology (ABT) program, ensuring that all offerings maintain industry relevance through experiential learning and strong community partnerships.
Education & Credentials
- Required Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Adult Education, Education/Human Development, Social Sciences, STEM, or Humanities).
- Preferred Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a related discipline.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a postsecondary academic administration role.
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in higher education, ensuring a deep understanding of classroom dynamics and faculty/student relations.
- Proven success in Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM), complex budget oversight, and labour relations within a unionized environment.
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum development, manage program accreditation, and foster research excellence.
- Expertise in building teams, mentoring faculty, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Proven track record in developing community and industry collaborations, with a focus on creating experiential learning opportunities.
- Deep understanding of Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles, with a demonstrated commitment to actioning reconciliation and fostering an inclusive culture.
- Experience implementing technology-supported learning models, including online, hybrid, and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Proficiency in institutional planning/reporting software and superior skills in conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, and complex decision-making.
