At Split Rock Healing House, we believe a sense of security is essential in fostering an environment conducive to healing. We are seeking an Overnight Security Guard to maintain a secure and peaceful environment for youth and staff. Working alongside our Youth Wellness Workers, this role ensures the wellbeing of everyone on-site through overnight monitoring, responsiveness, and care.

ABOUT TSË LHTS'ËNC'IL NEC'IGEKH BE YIKH (SPLIT ROCK HEALING HOUSE)

Located on Takiga Lake near Witset, BC, Tsë Lhts'ënc'il Nec'igekh Be Yikh (Split Rock Healing House) is a four-month, six-bed live-in program for Indigenous youth in northern BC. Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, our program supports youth in connection with their families and communities, addressing healing across the physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional dimensions.

Youth are supported by trauma-informed counsellors, social workers, Elders, knowledge keepers, and a dedicated wellness team. Families are welcomed into the process, and connections continue long after youth complete the program through mentorship, alumni activities, and community engagement.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Overnight Security Guard works alongside the Youth Wellness Support Worker to help maintain a safe and peaceful environment throughout the night. This role involves monitoring security cameras, conducting regular checks of the building and outdoor spaces, and, alongside the Youth Wellness Support Worker, responding calmly to any safety or wellness concerns that may arise. The Security Guard plays an important part by ensuring that program youth can rest securely, knowing their space is cared for and protected.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Overnight Security Guard shall be responsible for:

• Supporting the Youth Wellness Support Worker in maintaining a safe, calm overnight environment for youth and staff.
• Monitor security cameras and conduct regular safety checks throughout the building and surrounding property.
• Respond appropriately to safety or wellness concerns, following Split Rock Healing House protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of nightly activities, observations, and any incidents.
• Communicate clearly with the morning team to ensure smooth transitions and consistent care.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired:

• Completion of Basic Security Training Certificate (BST) through the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Applicants who do not have this training must be willing to complete it shortly after hire (training costs will be covered by Split Rock Healing House).
• Security Worker License. Applicants who do not have this license must be willing to apply following the completion of BST certification (application costs will be covered by Split Rock Healing House).
• Strong communication and crisis de-escalation skills.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or equivalent).
• Applicants must be 19 years of age or older.

Assets:

• Experience working in community, healthcare, or similar environments.
• Experience working with youth, particularly Indigenous youth.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed or culturally safe approaches.

EDUCATION

• High school diploma required.
• Additional training or certifications related to security and/or safety is an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00-$30.00 per hour
