A well-established professional land use planning firm located in the heart of Muskoka is seeking a motivated and experienced Planner to join our team. This position is ideal for a planning professional looking for a challenging and dynamic role assisting private sector clients as they navigate the planning and development process in cottage country.

Our firm manages a wide range of planning proposals, with a strong focus on recreational residential properties, as well as commercial, rural, and industrial development files.

POSITION: Land Use Planner (RPP)

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to clients seeking direction on developing their properties.
  • Act as liaison between clients and approval authorities.
  • Coordinate with related professional team members to achieve client planning objectives.
  • Prepare a variety of planning and land-use applications and supporting materials, including technical reports, sketches, planning justification reports, policy research, and other documentation.
  • Liaise with approval authority staff and attend meetings of committees, boards, and Council.
  • Prepare appeal materials, supporting evidence, and appear before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in a planning-related discipline.
  • Five or more years of applied planning experience.
  • Full membership in OPPI, CIP, or both.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario's planning system, the Planning Act, and the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS).
  • Proficient research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • General understanding of the geography and planning framework of cottage country and the near north.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.

Working Conditions

  • Professional office environment with a smart casual dress code.
  • Occasional site inspections required; mileage is reimbursed by the firm.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $96,000–$130,000 per annum, based on experience and merit.
  • 3–5 weeks paid vacation, depending on experience.
  • Annual salary adjustments based on cost-of-living and performance.
  • Full benefits package with all premiums paid by the firm (following a probationary period).
  • Participation in the company's Group Retirement Plan with employer matching.
  • OPPI or CIP membership fees fully paid by the firm.
