Role ResponsibilitiesImagine helping build Alberta's future, one parcel of land at a time. As a Property Agent, you'll secure the land where highways, bridges, and public services take shape. From rural farmland to commercial corridors, your work ensures infrastructure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with lasting public value. You'll navigate complex negotiations, mediate with care, and make decisions that impact communities across the province. Join a team that helps shape Alberta's infrastructure landscape—connecting communities, supporting economic development, and protecting public interest through thoughtful, strategic land management.
Reporting to the Property Manager, you'll lead property acquisition initiatives that support some of Alberta's most strategic construction projects. You'll manage everything from compensation agreements to expropriations, working closely with internal teams, legal professionals, landowners, and Indigenous communities. With strong communication skills and sound judgment, you'll ensure that all property matters are resolved effectively, while contributing to the region's broader goals in infrastructure delivery and land management.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end acquisition projects, including planning, resourcing, negotiations, documentation, and closure.
- Communicating with landowners to negotiate terms, answer questions, and maintain strong relationships throughout the acquisition process.
- Preparing documentation for expropriation proceedings, including appraisal reports, ownership plans, and negotiation histories.
- Coordinating external experts such as appraisers, land agents, surveyors, and legal professionals to support acquisition and legal compliance.
- Liaising with Indigenous leaders, Band Councils, and other government agencies to negotiate land access through First Nations Reserves and maintain positive working relationships.
- Representing the Department in judicial or quasi-judicial hearings, including tribunals, courts, and legal inquiries.
- Overseeing leases and managing the Department's rural and urban property inventory, including the disposal of surplus land.
- Proposing improvements to acquisition methods that reflect changing project needs, stakeholder expectations, and legal standards.
This position may require travel in the North Central region once or twice a month—typically up to 5% of the work schedule.
