Position Overview

The Recreation Facilitator provides recreation services under the direction and supervision of the Coordinator, Resident Services or designate. The Recreation Facilitator functions as an integral part of the health care team and performs all duties in accordance with policies/procedures of GWCL. The Recreation Facilitator continually considers the client as a whole person, with rights to be acknowledged and respected as outlined in the Resident Bill of Rights.

Experience
  • 1-2 years previous work experience with older adults (individual and groups) in a long-term care environment preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Grade 12 equivalent.
  • Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults certificate; or a diploma or undergraduate degree in Recreation determined to be equivalent by the employer.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certificate in Gerontology an asset.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with other disciplines and demonstrate professional judgment and initiative.
  • Must have personal maturity and the ability to accept responsibility for actions and decisions.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, sound judgment and problem-solving skills in all areas of practice.
  • Ability to organize and complete assignments with a minimum of supervision.
  • Willingness to adapt to new concepts, techniques and best practice in the academic and clinical fields of health care knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently.
  • Computer literacy as appropriate to the setting.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical effort required.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
