Position Summary

The Recreation Instructor II promotes the Mission and Philosophy of St.Amant, and the goals and objectives of Health and Transition Services through the provision of social, recreational and vocational activities that enrich and enhance the lives of supported individuals within the program.

The Recreation Instructor II supports the supported individuals and the care team by promoting an active lifestyle, planning and facilitating individual and group activities that are meaningful and engaging for the individuals and their families and coordinating the resources to make it happen.

The Recreation Instructor II reports to all Service Area Managers.

Qualifications

  • Grade Xll (or G.E.D)
  • Health Care Aide Certificate from an approved educational institution is required
  • Valid Class 4F Manitoba Driver's License and Abstract in good standing
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset
  • Formal course work in management and/or supervision is an asset
  • Minimum of 2 years (4030 hours) of experience working directly with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or autism and/or acquired brain injuries
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Care Management

Consistent with the Mission, Philosophy and Policies of St.Amant, the Recreation Instructor II provides high quality social/recreational/vocational support services including physical, cognitive, emotional, and skill-building activities tailored to the needs of each supported individual residing or receiving respite services on the assigned living unit(s).

Duties include:

  • Provides assistance, instruction and guidance to care team members and volunteers to enable supported individuals to participate in work/skill development, planned, organized and implemented social-recreational and leisure activities that emphasize personal wellness and choice within the least restrictive environment possible
  • Records and reports relevant information and shares updates with Manager and Recreation Therapist Clinical Services Lead as required in a timely manner
  • Actively participates in off-site outings to enhance engagement, social connection and overall well-being of individuals and will to utilize the Sprinter vehicle to appropriately transport individuals as needed
  • Collaborates with Recreational Therapist Clinical Services Lead and other care team members to assist individuals in achieving their goals and objectives
  • Covers other units as required in the absence of Recreation Instructors to ensure continuity of programming

St.Amant is a bilingual organization. Proficiency in both official languages (French/English) would be considered an asset.

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check.

As a Condition of Employment, new hires must complete a series of Occupational Health checks. This includes the requirement to confirm immunization or immunity of specific communicable diseases. Successful applicants will also be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
