ABOUT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 57
School District No.57 resides on the unceded ancestral lands of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nations, McLeod Lake Indian Band and the Simpcw First Nations.
Geographically we expand from Mackenzie, through Prince George, to McBride and Valemount. We serve 41 schools: 32 Elementary schools, 8 Secondary schools and 1 District Learning Support center for alternative and alternate learning opportunities.
We provide educational programs for approximately 15,000 students inclusive of early learning, after school art and sports programing, trades programs, and dual credit programs with our local post-secondary schools.
We support Lheidli T'enneh students, McLeod Lake students and Takla students living on reserve through our Local Education Agreements. With each Nation we co-construct the educational services provided to the students while attending a school within our school district.

WAGE: $ 40.02 hourly wage effective July 1, 2024
SUMMARY:
With minimal direction the mechanic performs safety inspections and mechanical maintenance to school district heavy equipment and small engines. The mechanic works cooperatively with other employees, and the public.
DUTIES:
- Performs mechanical safety inspections in accordance with Provincial standards and prepares and files reports with appropriate government agencies.
- Diagnoses problems, repairs and services vehicles and equipment.
- Designs and fabricates parts and equipment to enhance safety and/or performance of equipment.
- Lifts and moves parts and supplies.
- Sets up and maintains a service and preventative maintenance schedule, maintains shop and equipment records and requisitions parts.
- Performs ARC welding tasks for the temporary or permanent repairs to equipment.
- Directs, advises and assists other employees as appropriate.
- Reports parts and supplies inventory levels.
- Reports work completed including time and materials used.
- Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
- Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS:
- Successful completion of the B.C. Apprenticeship Program and a valid Provincial/Interprovincial Trade Certification as an automotive mechanic. Heavy duty Mechanic qualification is a desirable asset.
- Formal training in small engine repair.
Minimum of five years related experience at the journeyman level including the overhaul of mowers, riding mowers, hydraulic systems, gas and diesel powered farm equipment and snow blowers.
A valid B.C. Motor Vehicle Inspection license.
- Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.
- Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.
- Ability to demonstrate fine manual dexterity.
- Ability to maintain close attention to detail.
- Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contact with students, suppliers and other staff.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED (Mechanic)
Specialized testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, welders, chain hoist, computer, wheel chair lifts and restraint systems, tire chains, cleaning equipment aerial bucket truck, ladder, scaffolding and other mechanic's equipment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Sufficient vision to perform duties of a mechanic.
- Fundamental ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade.
- Manual dexterity.
- Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.
- Physical strength necessary to perform required tasks
