Position Overview:

As a contributor to the Public Relations Department, the Content Specialist is responsible for leveraging their specialized expertise in content planning, development, and editing to support the delivery of outstanding Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications results that align with the strategic plan of the National Payroll Institute ("Institute").

By ensuring that content created and distributed by the Institute is well-researched, on-brand and engaging, this individual materially enhances the Institute's brand recognition, reception and reputation. They are consistently collaborative and creative, working with the cross-functional Communications & Marketing team to test and evaluate innovative new approaches, while maintaining brand consistency and directly contributing to integrated marketing campaigns.

What you will be doing:

Editorial Content Development

  • Strategy development, planning, project management and content production related to the Institute's main content channels
  • Managing, maintaining and creating content and calendars related to the Institute's email marketing, including working cross-departmentally to ensure cohesive and fair promotion of all products and offerings
  • Overseeing the content and publishing of the Institute's member print publication, DIALOGUE magazine, and contributing editorial content as needed
  • Overseeing the content and management of the Institute's community platform, HCM DIALOGUE, working with external writers to ensure contributed content is timely, interesting and on-brand
  • Working cross-departmentally to create multi-media content as needed; this may include speech writing, script development, presentation content, etc.
  • Effectively present concepts, strategies and operational plans to management for approval

Editing / Subject Matter Expertise

  • Reviewing content from across the organization to ensure alignment with Canadian Press ("CP") Style writing, brand consistency and appropriate tone and style
  • Working cross-departmentally and collaboratively to editorialize payroll-specific content and ensure it is clear and easy to understand
  • Reviewing contributed content from a variety of stakeholders (partners, sponsors, vendors, etc.) to ensure appropriate tone and messaging for the Institute's audiences
  • Applying a customer-centric approach to the editing and review process, always aiming to meet the needs of the original contributor, while ensuring final content meets the brand standards of the National Payroll Institute

Strategic Creative Marketing Content

  • Identifying innovative advertising opportunities to more efficiently achieve Institute goals, capture leads and drive broad awareness
  • Oversee the planning and execution of targeted outbound lead-capture campaigns to influencer audiences and channels (e.g., HR, Accounting, Bookkeepers)
  • Developing, monitoring, tracking and reporting on advertising-related budget lines and developing/contributing to reports on the effectiveness of advertising efforts, including key learnings
  • Strategy development, planning, project management and reporting on paid advertising programs to reach target audiences in support of all Institute products (Professional Development ("PD"), accreditation, membership and events) and brand equity-building activities
  • Working closely with cross-departmental product teams to develop compelling promotions and direct marketing plans – pulling in colleagues to form integrated strategies wherever possible
  • Collaborating with Public Relations team colleagues to develop strategies that incorporate effective creative approaches into integrated PR programs and campaigns
  • Leading the execution of marketing & communications strategies, as well as special projects, as required, including the development and maintenance of critical paths
  • Working closely with designers to develop creative assets through copywriting

Financial and Administration

  • Contributes to the development of the department's annual operational plan and budget
  • Report on successes and learnings, using effective KPIs

Some of the qualifications and skills we are looking for include:

  • Post-secondary education – University degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or other related discipline OR relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of marketing, content development, public relations, corporate communications, digital marketing, social media, or related professional experience
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Advanced copywriting and proofreading abilities using CP Style of writing
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in the following: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and various Internet and research tools, as well as the ability to learn new applications as required
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in communications, including editorial expertise, publishing, program planning, media releases, research, program execution and evaluation

Core Working Days & Flexible Work Program
