The Data Architect (Azure Data Architect or Data Platform Architect) leads the design of scalable, AI-ready data platforms built on Microsoft Fabric and the broader Azure data ecosystem. This role connects business priorities to technical architecture, ensuring data environments are secure, reliable, and optimized for analytics and AI.

You will define data processing layers from ingestion to transformation to curated analytical models and partner with engineering and business teams to create platforms that support automation, analytics, and AI-driven insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end Microsoft Fabric architectures covering ingestion, transformation, and curation for analytics and AI workloads.
  • Develop and oversee data lake structures , ensuring efficient data movement, replication, and workspace organization across multi-zone environments.
  • Align designs with Microsoft's Cloud Adoption Framework and Azure Well-Architected Framework to ensure consistency, scalability, and governance.
  • Create business-aligned data models based on reporting, analytics, and AI requirements.
  • Enable AI readiness by defining structures, metadata, and access patterns suitable for RAG, intelligent search, summarization, and other AI workloads.
  • Implement strong security and governance , including encryption, RBAC, and data masking aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Optimize cost and performance , guiding decisions around Fabric SKUs, OneLake storage, and refresh strategies.
  • Partner with Data Engineers to translate architecture into high-quality delivery and promote consistent engineering practices.
  • Produce documentation, reference architectures, and reusable standards to support future projects and maintain governance.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Seven plus years in data architecture, engineering, or platform design, including at least two years with Azure data services.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of data lakehouse concepts, ELT and ETL pipelines, and schema evolution.
  • Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python for automation and validation.
  • Experience with governance and metadata tools such as Microsoft Purview.
  • Solid understanding of RBAC, encryption, and privacy standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  • Strategic, iterative mindset suited for AI-enabled data environments.

  • Experience applying Microsoft CAF and the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
  • Background in AI-enabling data structures including RAG pipelines, semantic enrichment, and knowledge graph design.
  • Exposure to data product thinking, domain-driven design, or data mesh principles.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, semantic search, and embedding workflows.
