Position Summary:

The Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) Worker is responsible for delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive childcare services to children of newcomer families participating in settlement programs. This role involves creating a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment that supports the developmental, emotional, and social well-being of children from diverse backgrounds. The CNC Worker plans and implements age-appropriate activities that encourage language development, socialization, and adaptation to the Canadian context. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong cross- cultural communication skills, flexibility, and a deep commitment to supporting the needs of newcomer children and their families.

Duties:

· Implements activities and programs to meet the complex needs of children.

· Ensures that all programs encourage and promote the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of all children.

· Prepares and maintains the program area (e.g., creative arts center, cognitive area, dramatic play, large motor activities).

· Ensures that program set up, delivery and documentation meet CMAS guidelines

· Keeps accurate attendance, records, and maintains children's files.

· Recommends the purchase of toys, equipment and other resource material needed in the childminding program.

· Maintains, cleans, and disinfects children's toys, furniture, and shelving area following latest procedures and policies from public health and Region of Peel.

· Adjust programming-based health & safety measures set by the province and Region of Peel.

· Attend programs, department and agency meetings.

· Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

· Early Childhood Education diploma or equivalent as deemed by the Association for Early Childhood Education, Ontario.

· Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE).

· Minimum one (1) year experience working with newcomer preschool children and toddlers.

· Knowledge of the Care for Newcomer Children model. Sensitivity and understanding of issues faced by newcomers to Canada.

· Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

· Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in a second language will be an asset.

· Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of immigrants and refugees' children.

· Must have a valid CPR/First Aid training Certification.

· Must provide record of immunization and TB test results as mandated for the Early Childhood Educators (ECEs)

· Upon successful hire, must provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) police check obtained within the past six (6) months.
