ResponsibilitiesThe Curriculum Support Specialist is responsible for Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) Accreditation and ensuring Western's Additional Qualifications courses meet OCT guidelines, while addressing issues regarding new policy and curriculum as required to ensure the accreditation process is successful. The position requires extensive knowledge of Ministry curriculum documents and accreditation requirements. The position will provide pedagogical expertise to the development and revision of engaging online courses that adhere to the OCT guidelines. The incumbent will work with the web designer to design and implement courses, develop and deliver certificates, provide Instructor support, create and facilitate an online instructors' course, and interact virtually with approximately 80 online instructors to provide pedagogical and course content support as well as strategies for teaching in an online environment. The Curriculum Support Specialist will provide advice on university policy and guidance to instructors who are new to the online environment; designing and facilitating instructor workshops at the Faculty of Education twice per year. The position works with the Manager and the Marketing and Communications person to develop marketing strategies for the program and ensure connection to the school system to determine suitable course authors and revisers. The incumbent will need to keep abreast of changes in both new technologies for online teaching as well as education-related directives.
Qualifications
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in a related discipline such as a Bachelor of Education
- Ontario College of Teachers accreditation in good standing
- Graduate degree in Education, Curriculum, or Pedagogy preferred
Experience:
4 years' relevant professional experience
Experience in curriculum development is an asset
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Familiarity with instructional design methods to deliver instructional programs and courses
- Familiarity with adult learning principles
- Familiarity with learning evaluation methods
- In-depth and broad knowledge within the field
- Presentation skills to deliver information in a clear and engaging manner, using appropriate communication channels
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to summarize information and disseminate to others effectively in a timely manner
- Ability to creatively adapt traditional methods, concepts, models or systems to new applications
- Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others, and interact with them appropriately based on those emotions
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and consistently produce high-quality work
- Demonstrated ability to coach and support adult learners, and to enable individuals to learn
