Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB's mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.
The
Director, Investments
, is an active senior member of the CIB investments team and is involved in all aspects of the sourcing and execution of investment opportunities. This dynamic role includes developing creative financing strategies for projects facing financing gaps to attract private capital and leading and executing the full lifecycle of investments, including managing junior deal team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in finance, private equity, equity research, investment banking or advisory in an infrastructure-related field.
Your responsibilities include:
- Assisting in sourcing a pipeline of potential investment opportunities by establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in the infrastructure industry along with venture capital funds, incubators and accelerators in the energy transition/climate tech industry
- Managing and executing transactions and advisory mandates, including opportunities at different stages of development (e.g., from early-stage projects requiring advisory to deals that are ready for CIB investment), including feasibility/business case assessment, investment structuring, due diligence, financial modelling, negotiation, legal documentation, internal approval documentation and management of both internal resources and third-party advisors including legal, market, technical, insurance and others
- Leading the structuring and execution of FEED capital investments, including feasibility/business case assessment, due diligence, financial modelling, negotiation and legal documentation
- Actively supporting portfolio companies post-investment, providing strategic guidance, facilitating partnerships and helping unlock follow-on capital
- Identifying emerging sectors, technologies and market trends in energy transition; proactively seeking out innovative business models and investment opportunities
- Developing and implementing creative financing strategies tailored to the unique needs of early-stage energy transition firms, leveraging CIB's mandate to catalyze private capital
- Overseeing and managing more junior deal team members
- Ad hoc responsibilities to support the overall Investments function and organization consistent with a growing and evolving business
- Contributing to the evolution of CIB's investment strategy and organizational growth, adapting to market and policy changes
The ideal profile:
- 10 plus years of infrastructure investing experience (venture capital, private equity or infrastructure investing, with a strong track record in energy transition or climate tech)
- University undergraduate degree in a related field (finance, engineering, accounting or science)
- Master's degree in business or finance
- CFA or CPA designation, an asset
- Demonstrated experience with capital structuring for early-stage investments (seed, Series A/B, FEED capital) at the corporate or project level and leading all aspects of the transaction cycle
- Deep network within the energy transition ecosystem (startups, VCs, corporates, government agencies)
- Self-starter with strong project management skills, relationship building skills, leadership skills
- Strong organizational commitment, comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity, entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset
- Highly collaborative team player
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Written and verbal bilingualism (French and English), an asset

Your responsibilities include:

- Gérer et exécuter des transactions et des mandats de services-conseils, y compris des occasions à différents stades de développement (p. ex. des projets en phase de démarrage nécessitant des services-conseils jusqu'à des transactions prêtes pour un investissement de la BIC) incluant l'évaluation de la faisabilité/de l'analyse de rentabilité, la structuration de l'investissement, la revue diligente, la modélisation financière, la négociation, la documentation juridique, la documentation d'approbation interne et la gestion des ressources internes et des conseillers tiers, y compris les conseillers juridiques, commerciaux, techniques, d'assurance et autres
- Diriger la structuration et l'exécution des investissements en capital d'ICI, y compris l'évaluation de la faisabilité/de la rentabilité, la revue diligente, la modélisation financière, la négociation et la documentation juridique
- Soutenir activement les sociétés de portefeuille après l'investissement, en fournissant des conseils stratégiques, en facilitant les partenariats et en aidant à débloquer des capitaux supplémentaires

The ideal profile:
- Plus de 10 ans d'expérience dans le domaine des investissements dans les infrastructures (capital-risque, capital-investissement ou investissements dans les infrastructures, avec une solide expérience dans la transition énergétique ou les technologies liées au climat)
- Diplôme universitaire de premier cycle dans un domaine connexe (finance, ingénierie, comptabilité ou sciences)
- Maîtrise en commerce ou en finance
- Titre de CFA ou CPA, un atout
- Expérience éprouvée dans la structuration du capital pour les investissements en phase de démarrage (amorçage, séries A/B, capital d'ICI) au niveau de l'entreprise ou du projet et dans la gestion de tous les aspects du cycle de transaction
- Réseau étendu au sein de l'écosystème de la transition énergétique (entreprises en démarrage, sociétés de capital-risque, entreprises, organismes gouvernementaux)
- Esprit d'initiative, solides compétences en gestion de projet, en établissement de relations et en leadership
- Sens aigu de l'engagement organisationnel, à l'aise avec la complexité et l'ambiguïté, esprit entrepreneurial et orientation vers les solutions
- Esprit d'équipe et grande capacité de collaboration
- Solides compétences en communication écrite et verbale
