Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, DeepSense, the Cloud Engineer is required to actively manage DeepSense cloud resources on all cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google), facilitate MLOps, and support the onboarding of student interns working on partner company's AI/ML projects, ensuring a seamless and optimized cloud experience to run projects scope, and aligned with the objectives of both the students and industry partners. The cloud engineer will also supervise interns working on cloud projects to establish cloud infrastructure, which will be run independently by the intern on the partner company's cloud platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocate and manage cloud resources across AWS, Azure, and GCP for AI/ML projects, ensuring security and cost optimization.
- Implement MLOps workflows on AWS SageMaker to streamline intern and project processes.
- Supervise client projects and onboarding, providing guidance and troubleshooting for interns and collaborators.
- Optimize and maintain cloud infrastructure, leveraging advanced technologies to improve performance and reliability.
- Administer DeepSense AI Project Platform, ensuring continuous improvement and supporting evolving AI/ML needs.
- Provide technical and GPU support, including ML environment setup and collaboration with cloud providers for issue resolution.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, plus minimum of one to two years' experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Strong knowledge of networking, storage, compute services, and multi-account management including IAM and security policies.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, and automation using IaC tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes). - Hands-on experience with MLOps tools (AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, or Google Vertex AI) and cloud-based AI/ML workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with ability to mentor and work independently.
Assets
- Experience of frontend or full-stack development.
- Strong interest in Generative AI, Agentic AI, or AI model deployment in cloud environments.
