Systems Specialist

Dartmouth, NS

Our client is seeking a Systems Specialist to play a pivotal role in designing, enhancing, and supporting the infrastructure that drives the organization's digital experience. As a key member of the IT team, this role will help deliver new products and solutions in collaboration with the Infrastructure Design team while maintaining and optimizing existing services throughout their lifecycle. The Systems Specialist will apply industry best practices, standardization, and automation to ensure operational efficiency and reliability, while contributing to implementations in an agile framework. This position requires a full-time, on-site presence and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on enterprise systems that are critical to the organization's day-to-day operations.

As the successful candidate, you will focus on improving infrastructure support processes across all support tiers, introducing automation to increase efficiency and consistency, and ensuring systems are implemented and operated in alignment with industry-leading practices. You will provide end-to-end technical oversight across planning, workload estimation, organization, and implementation of infrastructure solutions, while also executing and supporting infrastructure products and solutions. Responsibilities include establishing standards and policies for configuring, operating, securing, and maintaining infrastructure; monitoring capacity and performance; and recommending enhancements to meet evolving business and operational needs. You will also perform system administration tasks to ensure the stability of critical business solutions and participate in an on-call rotation to support customers.

The role calls for a collaborative professional who enjoys sharing knowledge and mentoring others, contributing technical expertise in a supportive and practical way. You will be comfortable engaging with both technical peers and management, and able to communicate clearly while balancing attention to detail with competing priorities. A university degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience is required, along with 3–8 years of experience in complex systems environments. Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Windows and Linux server operating systems, virtualization, storage platforms, and enterprise backup services is essential, along with exposure to Cisco enterprise hardware and Citrix technologies.

Additional strengths may include experience with automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell or Ansible, familiarity with cloud platforms including Azure and AWS, and a solid understanding of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert, Azure Expert, or DevOps Expert are highly valued, as is exposure to process improvement methodologies like Six Sigma Yellow Belt. This opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact within a collaborative, technology-driven organization while continuing to grow technically and professionally in a hands-on systems role.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
