LOCATION

This is a remote position open to candidates based anywhere in Ontario or Quebec. Occasional travel may be required to attend sector events, staff retreat etc. DTRC currently maintains a physical headquarters in Toronto and regional/virtual offices in Montreal and Vancouver.

Founded in 1985, the Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) is a national, charitable organization dedicated to helping dancers make necessary transitions into, within, and from professional performing careers.

We also operate as a resource centre for the dance community and general public and support activities that improve the socioeconomic conditions of artists across the country.

As a world leader in dancer transition, we are active participants in international conferences and research initiatives and help drive change within the dance community.

POSITION AVAILABLE

The Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC) is seeking a passionate, motivated, and experienced individual to cover a parental leave. The Finance and Operations Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and will be responsible for managing various aspects of the organization's finances and handling overall administrative responsibilities within set guidelines and policies. The ideal candidate has strong, primary experience in financial management, especially in a Canadian not-for-profit/arts context, is detail-oriented, methodical, and very comfortable in cloud-based workflows. The ideal candidate also understands the reality of working with a small staff and embraces a collaborative, multi-tasking mindset. We are looking for someone who connects with DTRC values and culture and has a strong commitment to supporting the career development of dance artists from a wide spectrum of dance genres and communities. An interest in, and understanding of, professional dance from a range of dance practices and cultures would be considered an asset. Bilingualism (French-English) or English-speaking with strong French language skills is strongly preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance and Operations Manager is the DTRC's point person for financial and administrative activity, including managing operating and project budgets; managing accounts payable and receivable; monitoring investments, quarterly reporting and cash flow; liaising with our bookkeeping firm; coordinating payroll; and ensuring all member-related funding and reimbursements are tracked, processed and documented efficiently on a weekly basis. The Finance and Operations Manager plays a key role in the general administration of the organization, with specific focus on finance, technology and human resources, and works closely and regularly with the Executive Director to ensure operational cohesion and team workflows. As part of DTRC's small staff, the Finance and Operations Manager is a team player and often collaborates on other organizational strategies and activities including Member Services, Learning Programs, Fundraising, Outreach & Engagement, and Special Projects.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Financial Management

  • Organizational and project budget development and oversight, including supporting grant applications and reporting
  • Accounts payable/receivable management
  • Weekly, monthly, quarterly monitoring and reporting (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Audit preparation and compliance in the context of not-for-profit and charity organizations
  • CRA documentation and financial reporting
  • Implementing not-for-profit financial practices and reporting standards

Data Management, Reporting, Confidentiality

  • Oversight and active maintenance of data accuracy, record-keeping, and confidentiality
  • Analysing data and preparing reports, including for stakeholders and funders

Technology & Operations

  • Oversight and maintenance of IT systems, databases, and cloud platforms
  • Implementing and maintaining cybersecurity best practices
  • Implementing and maintaining organization's operational, filing and archiving processes and systems

Human Resources Administration

  • Contract preparation and execution
  • Managing payroll and benefits administration (Vacation, T4, ROE, MERCS)
  • Providing staff, intern and board member onboarding and training

Organizational Management

  • Managing multiple priorities across finance, HR, technology and operations
  • Proactively managing staff, workplans, schedules, time and capacity allocations across multiple departments and projects

Communication Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Excellent listening and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to develop, uphold and maintain organizational policies and precedents in decision-making

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software, including Quickbooks online
  • Familiarity with platforms like Wagepoint, Plooto, Stripe
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint) skills
  • Familiarity with CRMs such as SUMAC

EDUCATION

  • Degree or diploma in Arts Management or Business Administration, or significant, relevant professional experience

Experience
:

  • Minimum 3–5 years in finance and administration roles, preferably in a not-for-profit/charity or arts organization
  • Experience with audits and compliance processes for charities in Canada
  • Overall experience working in Canadian not-for-profit/charity/arts organizations

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, with the ability to take independent initiative and maintain self-discipline/self-motivation to see projects through in a digital/hybrid work environment

  • Familiarity with Canadian arts sector operations and funding models
  • Bilingualism (English/French) strongly preferred
  • Experience with or understanding of professional dancer/artist careers considered an asset

OFFER

  • Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
