Cornwall Electric (CE), located in the beautiful town of Cornwall, is seeking a motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will have the ability to effectively interact with people in a professional manner, while complying with Company policies and procedures in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations governing the Electric Industry.

What this role does:

  • Prepare work orders of a routine nature for approval under the guidance of the departmental supervisor or others as assigned.
  • Under the direction of others, assist in the preparation of layouts and work orders for larger projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates and material lists for various projects.
  • Organize and maintain engineering and corporate records and information required by the Company, such as engineering drawings (CAD and manual), computer records, and paper forms.
  • Assist with the preparation of capital and maintenance budgets by preparing cost estimates for projects of a routine nature.
  • Prepare layouts for overhead or underground line extensions in the field.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of assigned projects on a regular basis.
  • Assist in testing and troubleshooting of apparatus and electrical devices.
  • Coordinate design work with other utilities, municipalities and customers.
  • Operate company vehicles as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

What makes you a successful candidate?

  • Must possess a three-year Technology Diploma from an accredited community college. The Diploma should include a major or strong minor in electrical technology or an accredited equivalent. Field experience in the electrical power industry may be accredited toward the electrical equivalency minor of the Diploma.
  • Must be a certified member or eligible for membership in OACETT. The Junior Engineering Technologist is expected to obtain associate membership in OACETT and shall obtain certification in OACETT upon completion of the required work experience period and successfully completing OACETT's Professional Practice Examination.
  • Must possess a valid "G" Ontario Driver's License to operate the vehicles handled in this position.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of computer systems, electronics, software and hardware, including, but not limited to, CAD/GIS, databases, and business software (such as Microsoft Office and SAP).
  • Must be physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess excellent communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners. The ability to speak in French is considered an asset.
  • Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers.
  • Must possess an unrelenting commitment and passion to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement.

  • This role offers a progression in pay starting from $33.70- $44.93. The starting rate for new hires will be based on their qualifications and the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
