Position Summary:
As a Jr. Project Engineer you will support cross-functional teams—including Project Management, Sales, Operations, and Engineering—to ensure the successful execution of customer trials, new product launches, and ongoing manufacturing projects. This role involves coordinating project activities, developing technical documentation, and maintaining strong communication with internal stakeholders, customers and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Project Management, Sales, and Operations to support customer trials and new product introductions, ensuring accurate project documentation, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
- Work closely with the Engineering Manager to develop improved processes, best practices, and training materials for successful project execution.
- Prepare and maintain technical documents (TDRs) for all project-related equipment, including machine setup procedures, recipes, mechanical configurations, and tooling requirements.
- Create and update process flow diagrams for customer trials, documenting changes and revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain plant-level documentation for tooling, materials, and equipment used in each project.
- Track project timelines, update tasks in Smartsheet, and ensure adherence to project plans.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors to review project scope and technical specifications; support on-site installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Liaise with external suppliers to obtain technical information, quotations, and lead times for equipment and parts.
- Organize and administer all phases of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project management standards and organizational goals.
- Conduct packaging material validations and maintain SAP records for all packaging components.
- Monitor project performance, identify variances, implement corrective actions, and propose continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and Integrated Lean Six Sigma requirements.
- Perform site visits and coordinate with internal and external teams to verify project progress and resolve technical issues.
- Generate print codes for cases, cartons, or film as needed.
- Process invoices and maintain capital budget tracking.
- Validate packaging materials against die lines and assess customer dyelines for feasibility.
- Recommend and implement poka-yoke and center lining techniques to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Develop and maintain KPI dashboards, charts, and reports.
- Identify potential project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Communicate project status updates to Customer, stakeholders and escalate risks as needed.
- Provide engineering support for equipment failures, performance issues, and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain project files, drawings, SOPs, validation documents, and engineering change notifications
Health and Safety
- Conduct all job tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
- Participate in all Health and Safety, GMP and HACCP training as required.
- Report any accidents, incidents and unsafe/hazardous conditions to your leadhand/supervisor.
- Report any damages of property and machinery to your leadhand/supervisor.
- Ensure that you understand how and when to use the Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) that is located in your work area.
- Ensure you comply with OHSA, WSIB, MOL regulations and/or laws that govern workers.
Qualifications
- Experience in food processing is considered an asset.
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering preferred.
- A highly-motivated, self-starter capable of leading multiple projects
- Results oriented; having the desire and ability to measure and achieve results both individually and with others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management software/tools.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is an asset.
- 1–2 years of related experience in engineering role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Pursuit of P.Eng or EIT designation is an asset.
