The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is seeking interns to support the development and interpretation of evidence-based policies and programs related to species conservation management. Come and be part of our team in the Species at Risk Branch.
About the jobIn this role you will:
- Provide technical advice, administrative support to the development and implementation of regulations, policies, permissions, procedures and programs for the Branch that include a focus on species at risk management conservation.
Mandatory requirements
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
- Graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years.
- You have an understanding of the theory, principles, policies and practices related to species at risk conservation, natural resource management and/ or environmental risk assessment planning and management.
- You have knowledge of data and information analysis techniques and computer-based analytical, and data management to research, compile and analyze data; prepare reports and related materials; and recommend effective courses of action.
- You have familiarity with Geographic Information System software including geospatial tools, to perform basic geospatial database management operations, and analysis.
- You have knowledge of research and analysis techniques, environmental scanning, , including utilizing databases and websites to gather, summarize and interpret information.
- You have a general understanding of legislative, regulatory, policy and planning tools that support species at risk in Ontario.
- You have an understanding of biological life processes and habitat of Ontario species at risk including those in northern Ontario.
- You have research and analytical skills to conduct research, analyze, assess, compare, assess and synthesize summarize data from diverse sources.
- You can summarize and report on complex and diverse issues with high attention to detail.
- You have interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, briefing notes and decks, and communications materials tailored to the audience.
- You possess professionalism, judgment and demonstrated ability to work in teams, address contentious issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- You have the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with external clients and partners.
- You have organizational and time management skills to undertake and balance multiple tasks and shifting timelines.
- You possess information management skills and computer skills to conduct research, maintain electronic information systems and prepare reports.
- You are able to evaluate, establish and follow standardised procedures and workflow for optimizing file management and workplace efficiencies.
- You have knowledge of standard computer applications including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- You have an understanding of file sharing and permissions, through Microsoft SharePoint and Teams.
- You have experience with ESRI-based Geographic Information Systems including ArcGIS Pro, WebAppViewer, Experience Builder, Dashboards, can perform basic GIS operations and can create mapping products.
