Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Principal, , the Educational Assistant will:

  • Assist in developing and implementing an educational program in an integrated setting, emphasizing:
  • behavior management;
  • development of communication skills;
  • socialization skills;
  • self-help skills,
  • Participate in program planning in close co-operation with the home setting and school;
  • Participate in assessment and treatment planning;
  • Maintain accurate daily records;
  • Provide supervision as assigned; and
  • Other related duties.

Qualifications

  • 2 or 3 year Community College Diploma in Educational Assistant, Autism and Behaviour Management or Developmental Services Worker or Youth Worker Program, Early Childhood Education, Social Services;
  • 3-5 years of experience in a school setting; and
  • Candidates must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.

Preferred Assets

  • BMS Training;
  • Qualifications and experience with Autism and Behaviour Science;
  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies;
  • Experience with a variety of data collection methods;
  • Experience with assistive technology;
  • Demonstrated peer leadership in a variety of school settings;
  • Experience working with individuals with ADHD/ODD and ASD; and
  • Self-motivated, critical thinking, with proven team skills and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
