Commercial Manager (Construction)
Maple Reinders Constructors is currently seeking an experienced Commercial Manager with a strong background in construction contracting and bid management. The successful candidate will join our Major Projects team and have to opportunity to work on exciting Civil and ICI projects.
This role will support and lead the commercial and contractual aspects of project pursuits, ensuring risks are effectively managed and opportunities are maximized. The Commercial Manager will play a key role in contract reviews, design services agreements, and the development of winning proposals.
This individual will also be responsible for assisting the Design and Bid Proposal Managers with prequalification submittals and proposal development and production for public and private entities; support the Design and Bid Proposal Managers with response to requests for pre-qualifications, requests for information, and proposals. The Individual will support the National Director, Major Projects to ensure a successful transition from the proposal development and negotiation phases, into construction and hand-over to the project team, as may be required on a project-by-project basis.
Job Duties:
- Lead and coordinate contract review processes during project pursuits, ensuring compliance with company policies and alignment with business objectives.
- Review, draft, and negotiate design services agreements, subcontracts, and other commercial documentation in conjunction with the legal department.
- Provide commercial input and risk assessment in bid and proposal development, working closely with estimating, legal, design, and operations teams.
- Identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risks in project opportunities.
- Support bid teams in pricing strategies, contract terms, and conditions to achieve commercially sound proposals.
- Advise leadership on contractual obligations, liabilities, and commercial impacts.
- Ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy in all contractual correspondence and commercial deliverables.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, consultants, and subcontractors to support successful negotiations and project awards.
- Stay updated on industry trends, legislation, and best practices to ensure compliance and competitiveness. Provide commercial and business development support/advice to other areas of the business within the group according to the need.
- Support the progression of pre-construction activities.
- Support Maple Reinders Enterprise Systems and Project Management teams in development of systems, processes and procedures.
- Assist Maple Reinders Project Managers in development of risk registers, and risk and contingency allowances.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, quantity surveying, law, business, or a related field
- Minimum 5 – 7 years' experience in commercial management within the construction industry.
- Proven track record in contract negotiation, risk management, and bid/proposal support.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, design services agreements, and procurement practices.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Valid driver's license.
