ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Conservation Officer III in Pond Inlet, the Conservation Officer II initiates, administers and delivers approved programs, projects and services pertaining to wildlife management environmental protection and to the development of a mixed/traditional economy in assigned area of Nunavut, in accordance with all relevant Acts and Regulations, and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. The efforts of this officer will result in a sustainable renewable resource economy and a traditional harvest that satisfies the needs of users.
The incumbent works closely with the HTO and local harvesters in supporting sound wildlife management and conservation practices while supporting a mixed/traditional economy user lifestyle. Some of the responsibilities include: issuing licenses and permits to the general public; co-coordination of inspections and investigations with other agencies and jurisdictions as required; assisting with project and survey preparations; responding to inquiries from the public; submitting a monthly report to the HTO; administering the Fur Pricing Program; enforcing the Territorial Parks Act; monitoring efficiency of the tourism outfitters within district as it related to safety.
Sound knowledge of computer software including communications (email), word processing, financial spreadsheets and databases is required to be successful in this position. The incumbent must have community development skills in facilitating renewable resource development, and park operation and maintenance. The incumbent must also have ability in accessing resources and problem solving with respect to sustainable resources, funding resource development and identifying tourism safety training needs.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in environmental conservation, renewable resources management or a related field. The incumbent must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to drive trucks, snowmobiles, and ATV's. The incumbent must be eligible to obtain a Transport Canada approved boat license and a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) within 6 months of employment. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktitut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

• Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification
• Transport Canada approved boat license.
• Boat, ATV and/or snowmobile safety/proficiency course certification
