Reporting to the Vice President, Labour Relations, the Manager, Labour Relations is responsible for leading a team of Advisors and Coordinators in supporting union-affiliated operating groups across the organization. In this role, you will oversee the team's delivery of Labour Relations activities aligned with the needs of multiple operating groups. By leveraging the expertise of the Labour Relations Centre of Excellence (COE), you will apply a strong understanding of the business, industry, and market conditions to drive efficiencies and foster effective internal and external relationships at all levels.

Using both conceptual and practical expertise, you will guide and influence the business in areas such as collective bargaining, grievance management, union and non-union labour strategy implementation, and the delivery of Labour Relations education programs. You will also collaborate with the LR COE to share labour-market research and analysis with the business to support informed decision-making and optimal outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage, coach, and develop Labour Relations (LR) professionals by sharing specialized LR knowledge, providing ongoing coaching and mentoring, and fostering collaborative team success
  • Set priorities, distribute workload, monitor progress, and assess team performance to ensure timely completion of deliverables and consistent application of LR COE processes
  • Lead and oversee the collective bargaining process for multiple operating groups, including negotiation facilitation and contract administration
  • Oversee proposal development, cost analysis, and mandate approval; provide bid support to gather information that informs labour strategy
  • Recommend terms of employment to the COE and business, ensure all legal requirements and documentation are met, and oversee all assigned negotiations
  • Provide guidance to Advisors, Coordinators, and internal support teams on interpreting, administering, and implementing collective agreements and project conditions
  • Oversee labour-disruption mitigation, including resolution of employee issues, grievances, arbitrations, unfair labour practices, and investigations
  • Partner with Business HR and operating leaders to address grievance trends, develop solutions, manage complex issues, and influence stakeholders toward resolution
  • Collaborate with operating groups and legal teams on labour strategies for pursuits and new work, identify and mitigate labour risks, maintain industry intelligence, and ensure compliance with applicable labour models and legislation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Industrial/Labour Relations or HR supporting a unionized workforce, with progressive or traditional union experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience leading and developing professional staff
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial Relations, or Human Resources Management
  • Strong knowledge of employment and human rights legislation, with experience advising and influencing operational leaders
  • Labour Board interface experience preferred, and supervisory experience in Construction or BTU/Stationary labour environments considered an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build high-performing teams and coach direct reports
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to navigate challenging questions and engage in productive debate
  • Strong business acumen, decision-making capability, and the ability to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions aligned to business needs
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, solve complex problems, and collaborate effectively as a team player

Work Conditions:

  • This is an office-based position with flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per week
  • Travel is required to various site and office locations

Compensation

$112,050–$149,400 Annual

This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
