POSTION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Serve as a core component of the maintenance department and contribute to the success of the business operation. Success includes leading safety efforts to create a safe work environment, providing a Continuous Improvement mindset, and working well in a team environment. Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, inspect, install, and support all lubrication equipment. Systems include hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, mobile cranes, gearboxes, rolls, and power transmission. Support and work as a team with other Maintenance Technicians and perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform prolonged physical exertions, including standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions and tight areas
  • Lifting and carrying weight exceeding 50lbs
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Basic mechanical and maintenance aptitude
  • Ability to use basic math skills
  • Ability to read and understand and follow operating and maintenance instructions
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work well with other employees
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working behaviors including lockout, fall protection, confined space and mobile equipment operation
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission, machine installation, welding, and pipefitting
  • Ability to improve grease systems and maintain automated systems
  • Demonstrated involvement in making key improvements in lubrication to extend the service life of equipment (i.e., improved lubricants, modified frequencies, sing point lubricators, etc.)
  • Ability to read and follow schematics and prints for lubrication systems. Able to troubleshoot all systems
  • Demonstrated communication and involvement with engineers, lubrication and power transmission suppliers to identify proper techniques, lube frequencies and to initiate failure analysis

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Complete all grease, oil and lubrication preventative maintenance per maintenance schedule
  • Operate all grease and oil pumps for all types of lubrications
  • Run pipes, tubing, grease lines, and hoses for repairs or new installation
  • Select, order and keep inventory current on grease and oil supplies (lubrication supplies)
  • Change equipment filters and maintain oil filter supply
  • Maintain oil levels, temperatures and pressures on all hydraulic units
  • Refill central automated grease systems
  • Coordinate with production to get specific machines lubricated while down on short notice
  • Grease, lubricate and change all gearbox oils in mobile cranes
  • Identify and repair or report worn or failed components, leaks, etc
  • Assist other maintenance technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas
  • Perform required administrative duties when necessary, such as cycle counts, parts requisitions, and warranties
  • Ensure all safety devices on equipment are in good working order
  • Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders and parts usage) on computer/tablet
  • Ensure a safe work environment and contribute to a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Maintenance Manager
  • Primary internal customers: Yard Operations employees
  • Primary external customers: None

  • Must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions that may include dirt, grease, heat and cold
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities
