Work Description

These positions will be located at Adult Probation and Parole facilities/offices. As an Adult Probation and Parole Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Assist probation and parole officers in coordinating case management.
  • Support the development and delivery of ministry in-house programs.
  • Apply research, analytical, and writing skills to prepare a variety of reports.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work.

Mandatory requirements

You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment (contracts begin between May and July):

  • Student Status: You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester) OR you must have graduated within the past six months (for example, if you graduated in December, you can apply for and start a summer student position up until June of the following year).
  • Age: You must be a minimum of 15 years of age. There is no maximum age limit.
  • Residency: You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
  • Work Status: You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • You apply your excellent written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents in support of the case management of offenders.
  • You apply your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with professionals, justice sector officials, and community partners.
  • You apply your verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to utilize community resources and assist with case management services.
  • You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
  • You apply your experience using Microsoft Office applications, such as Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheets), as well as databases, email, and the internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents.
Analytical and Organizational Skills
  • You apply your organizational and coordination skills to support and assist in the case management of adult offenders.
  • You apply your administrative and coordination skills by complying with all ministry administrative standards and directives.
  • You are able to monitor and assist in the enforcement of court and parole conditions requirements.
  • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your work to meet competing deadlines.
