About the Role

The Warehouse / Receiving Person is responsible for the accurate unloading, verification, and organization of incoming merchandise. This role ensures the warehouse and receiving areas are clean, orderly, safe, and efficient to support a high level of store performance and customer service. The position requires the ability to read invoices, bills of lading, picklists, and follow Home Hardware receiving procedures with accuracy and speed.

Key Responsibilities

Receiving & Verification

  • Unload incoming trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Verify incoming merchandise against invoices, orders, and packing slips.
  • Identify and report shortages, damaged goods, backorders, or discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate receiving files, records, and documentation.
  • Follow proper procedures for refused or returned merchandise.

Warehouse Operations

  • Keep warehouse, receiving, and storage areas neat, clean, and organized.
  • Move merchandise from receiving to warehouse locations and the sales floor.
  • Maintain maximum security in warehouse and receiving areas.
  • Follow company procedures regarding signatures, forms, and required documentation.
  • Ensure price books, catalogues, and receiving materials are kept up to date.

Customer & Store Support

  • Assist customers and staff by moving heavy or bulky merchandise.
  • Prepare packages for mailing or customer pickup.
  • Process special orders for non-stock or out-of-stock items.
  • Cut pipe, glass, make keys, and perform other basic services as needed.
  • Support special projects as assigned by the supervisor, determining priority relative to daily responsibilities.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety precautions when loading, unloading, and moving freight.
  • Operate transfer equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, pushcarts, etc.) safely and in accordance with regulations.
  • Work in a safe manner and report hazards, equipment concerns, or unsafe behaviours immediately.
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and safety updates.
  • Follow all company policies, receiving procedures, and operational standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management, co-workers, and delivery personnel.
  • Ability to visually inspect shipments and verify accuracy of merchandise.
  • Ability to read and understand invoices, bills of lading, and picklists.
  • Basic math skills for checking orders, invoices, and shipping documents.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jacks, pushcarts).
  • Willingness to learn and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.

Working Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Assistant Manager or Store Manager.
  • Works closely with warehouse staff, drivers, sales associates, and supervisors.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $16.52-$21.85 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
