Qualifications, Experience & Ability
School Counselor
- Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Nova Scotia Teacher´s Certificate and
- Master´s Degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or equivalent.
- Courses related to counselling skills and practice are encouraged to be completed in an education setting and in-person rather than virtually
- Minimum 400-hour supervised practicum that includes minimum of 150 hours of direct client counselling and between hours of counselling in group settings
Minimum Experience
- 2 years teaching experience at the applicable grade level
Minimum Ability
Predominately demonstrated through the interview process, the candidate will be assessed on their ability to effectively deal with situations that are likely to arise. Internal applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70% where they do not have experience in the position. External applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70%.
